Where to Buy Team Uniforms: Factory vs Local Shop vs Dealer

Local shops are fast for simple tees, dealers carry catalog brands, and factory-direct makers offer full-custom designs. Here is how to choose.

Factory-Direct vs Local Shop vs Dealer: Where Should Teams Buy Uniforms?

Coaches usually buy team uniforms from one of three places: a local print shop, a dealer or team store, or a factory-direct maker. Local shops are quick for simple printed tees, dealers sell catalog brands with limited customization, and factory-direct makers produce full-custom sublimated uniforms designed for your team.

Each one has a place. The right choice depends on how custom you want the uniform to be, how many players you have, and how much time you have before the first game.

When is a local print shop the right choice?

A local shop is right when you need simple T-shirts or a logo on a stock jersey in a hurry, and you want to pick them up in person. The limits are the blank colors in stock and how many colors the print can carry.

When does a dealer make sense?

Dealers make sense for schools with existing brand contracts, or teams that want a specific catalog brand. Customization is limited to the brand's templates, colors and decoration options.

What does factory-direct mean?

Factory-direct means you work with the company that cuts, prints and sews the uniform. With sublimation, any design, color fade or pattern can be printed into the fabric, and the whole team order is made to your design.

What should you ask any uniform supplier?

  • Is the quote all-in, including names, numbers, logos and shipping?
  • Are duties and taxes included for delivery to the US?
  • What is the minimum order?
  • How long after approval until it ships?
  • Can I see a free mockup before paying?
  • What happens if a size or name is wrong?
  • Can I reorder a single jersey later?

What is the catch with ordering from overseas?

The usual worries are surprise customs bills and long shipping. Stitchfields ships duty-paid (DDP) to US addresses, so the quote includes duties, and orders are tracked to your door. The main difference from a local shop is that you cannot pick up in person, which is why we send a mockup first and remake for free if a mistake is ours (reported within 14 days of delivery).

How do you order factory-direct from Stitchfields?

  1. Request a free mockup through the quote form.
  2. Approve the design; revisions are free.
  3. Send sizes, names and numbers. There is no minimum.
  4. Production takes 10–12 working days after approval, then duty-paid delivery.

Teams ordering 12 or more can request a free sample jersey first. Dealers and print shops can also buy wholesale: see our dealer program.

FAQ

Is factory-direct cheaper than a local shop?

It depends on the job. For full-custom sublimated uniforms, factory-direct usually gives more design for the money. For a few plain tees, a local shop can be simpler.

Do I pay customs on uniforms from Stitchfields?

No. Orders ship duty-paid to US addresses.

Is there a minimum order?

No.

Can I reorder later?

Yes. Your design stays on file for single-player reorders.
